Gene Juggler is a free online genetics game where you discover gene sequences and coordinate their expression under pressure. This gene expression puzzle recreates the regulatory juggling act every cell performs to make the right proteins at the right time.

Genes are controlled like machines with switches. Promoters recruit RNA polymerase, repressors block it and activators boost it, an arrangement bacteria perfected in operons like the famous lac system that switches on only when lactose appears. Keeping many of these switches coordinated is the core challenge the game simulates.

The puzzle scales up to real biology. Cells express only a fraction of their genome at any moment and expression patterns shift constantly with food, stress and development. Misread the sequence or mistime an expression and the whole program suffers, the same logic behind genetic disease and the same tools bioinformaticians use to find genes in raw sequence data.
