About Wood Wide Web

Grow a fungal network, trade nutrients with trees and relay pest alarms in this free online mycorrhizal ecology game.

Wood Wide Web is a free online fungi game where you thread mycorrhizal networks through soil, barter nutrients for sugar with trees and relay pest warnings underground. This ecology game simulates the internet running beneath every forest.

Mycorrhizal fungi are trading partners, not parasites. Their hyphae are a hundred times thinner than roots and reach minerals and water a tree cannot, exchanging phosphorus and nitrogen for photosynthesis-made carbon. Up to 90 percent of land plants run this partnership and the network links many trees at once into a shared economy.

The warning signals you dispatch are documented biology. Trees connected through common mycorrhizal networks can shuttle defense signals when neighbors get attacked, letting the forest react as a community. Forest ecologists now map these networks to understand resilience, a hidden layer of communication you get to build yourself.
